A sophisticated, one-hour drama from Emmy
Award nominee Aaron Sorkin. From his office
in the White House, President Josiah Bartlet

leads the most powerful nation on earth – but
needs lessons on riding a bike. Directly
descended from one of the signers of the
Declaration of Independence, New Hampshire
Democrat Bartlet exudes a country-lawyer
charisma that belies his brilliance, his deep
conviction and his devotion to what he believes
is right for the country – despite what the
special interest groups demand. As one of his
associates puts it, "While the left hand is
lulling you with folksy charm, you don’t
even hear the right hook coming."
Pacing the West Wing morning, noon and night,
Bartlet’s loyal staffers put on a show for the
press and public. Leo McGarry is the President’s

chief of staff and his closest ally and confidant.
He possesses the sort of street-smarts that enable
him to keep in touch with the sentiments of the
nation. Deputy Chief of Staff Josh Lyman is a

skilled strategist who at times can be too
opinionated for his own good. A highly regarded
political brain, he helped get Bartlet elected.
Press Secretary C.J. Gregg spends most of her

time deflecting the press’ awkward questions
with grace and skill. Cool and competent, C.J.
moderates tempers and keeps the bloodhounds at
bay, working alongside Toby Ziegler, the rumpled

and sleepless Communications Director whose
cynical sense of humor gets him through many a
dicey political situation. In contrast to his boss,
Deputy Communications Director Sam Seaborn is

a strictly political animal, easily able to craft an
appropriate presidential response and equally
skilled with the ladies. Gifted political
consultant Madeline Hampton relishes sparring

with her ex-boyfriend, Josh. Ambitious and a
bit scattered, Madeline is also romantically
involved with her boss, the senator planning
to campaign against Bartlet.

The combined power of the diverse members of
this unique team helps run a country. The nation
survives because of -- and at times in spite
of -- what happens in the West Wing.
