This anthology series features both human actors and creations
from Jim Henson's Creature Shop in this retelling of classic folk tales,
fables, and legends. The series stars John Hurt in the title role.
Aided by his cynical dog, Hurt narrates fascinating tales that combine
humor, intrigue, and magic. Academy Award-winning writer/director
Anthony Minghella (The English Patient) wrote many of these stories.
This series was to show some of Britain's finest actors and show others
who were about to propel themselves onto the international limelight within
the next few years, from Sean Bean, Jane Horrocks, Brenda Blethyn, Dawn
French, Jennifer Saunders, Joely Richardson, Bob Peck, Alison Doody, Gabrielle
Anwar, Jonathan Pryce and Miranda Richardson to name some.
