Comedy centering on the inmates of Alamesa Minimum Security
Prison, a "low-risk" institution apparently run as much by
the prisoners as by the aithorities. The usual setting was
the cell containing Hector, the resourceful Latin; his
friend DeMott; Cleaver, the eternal optimist; and Nicky,
a juvenile offender. Nearby was Gabby, a toothless, elderly
inmate. Mr. Gibson was the hard-nosed corrections officer,
whose attempts at keeping the boys in line were often
unintentionally thwarted by Mr. Sullivan,
a mild-mannered guard.
Originally telecast immediately following Barney Miller.
ABC promoted the two as "funny cops, and funny robbers."
Based on the British series "Porridge."
