Family Law is a compelling one-hour drama that
tackles the hard cases where families are in crisis,
where the stakes are always personal, and where hope
comes from places you would never have imagined.
Lynn Holt, a successful and tenacious family law attorney,
got the shock of her life when her husband/law partner
unexpectedly announced one night that he wanted a divorce
and was leaving her for another woman, who happened to
be one of her peers. However, she got an even bigger shock
when she discovered he hi-jacked the practice they built
together by taking all the clients, the furniture and
staff while leaving her with an expensive, newly
signed lease and no money to pay the rent.
With the help of Danni Lipton, her clear-headed, ambitious
junior associate, Lynn realized she had to pull herself
together and resurrect her life and career. She resorted
to unusual maneuvers by sub-leasing her office space to
two other attorneys - Randi King, a tough-talking defense
lawyer who spent a stint of time in state prison for
murdering her husband, and the money-hungry charmer,
Rex Weller, who is convinced that image is
everything in the business of family law.
Joining the cast in season two is television veteran Tony
Danza who plays unscrupulous legal eagle Joe Celano.
Celano, whose methods of fighting for justice have often
left him in hot water with the judicial system, is a
lawyer from a blue collar Brooklyn neighborhood who
has built his career on championing the underdogs,
particularly against big business.
The members of the firm often find themselves involved
in cases that tend to tug at the heart-strings more than
pay the rent, much to everyone's dissatisfaction. Even
when the case requires them to take it to court,
they can't help but take it to heart.
Although the attorneys are carting plenty of life's baggage,
they're all determined to make the most of this unexpected
second chance — and make each month's mortgage payment.
Patricia Dumar is the enthusiastic secretary. Emily Resnick
is the newest addition to the firm who is not only
opinionated but quite the pistol. Salli Richardson
portrays sassy attorney Viveca Foster.
