Famed novelist & NYC transplant Hank Moody relocated to LA after his acclaimed
book was optioned, only to be disappointed when it later becomes a crappy romantic comedy.
Since then, he's struggled to get his career back on track and raise his young daughter,
all while pining for his ex-girlfriend. It may sound desperate, but he enjoys life and
owns all his various vices — drink, drugs and women — with a refreshing sense of honesty
and unapologetic candor. He's holding it together while falling apart,
and he doesn't mind it one bit.

Life has been a rocky road of ups and downs for Hank Moody since the famed novelist
& NYC transplant relocated to Los Angeles. He suffered through a terrible case of
writer's block, major plagiarism, and Hollywood's crappy adaptation of his prized tome.

But just as he got back on track penning the memoirs for a rock music legend,
his biography subject overdosed – leaving Hank scrambling once again.

Now he's doing the best he can to raise a teenage daughter on his own while trying to
resist temptation as a new writing professor at a local university.

Karen is Hank's long-time ex-girlfriend and the mother of his teenage daughter.
The talented architect was happy with struggling genius writer Hank when they lived
in New York years ago, but she can't begin to hide her frustration with L.A. Hank's
inability to grow up and end his immature, predictable behavior.

After briefly reconciling with her on-again/off-again love, Karen recently bolted to
New York for a major work project. But can she trust Hank to care for their daughter
as a responsible single parent?

Or is she right to worry Hank can't resist the daily temptation of coeds and campus life?

Fresh off a stint in rehab, Marcy Runkle is still a woman who never minces words.
She's a brash, hard core, unapologetic salon owner currently in the middle of a nasty
divorce with Hank's agent/best friend, Charlie. Reluctantly, she has allowed her
soon-to-be-ex-husband to move back in while they sort out the details of their pending split.

Hank's best friend and agent once lived life on the straight and narrow path.
But it all blew up in his face when an affair with his receptionist was caught on tape,
earning him a pink slip and an uncertain future. After a brief stint as a producer in
the adult film biz – and an equally brief fling with one of his stars – Charlie found
himself in need of a job and a good divorce lawyer. Setting up shop at a new talent
agency is a good start, but can Charlie find a way to rekindle romance with his
soon-to-be ex, Marcy? Or will the pressure send the struggling ten-percenter
into the arms of his new boss?

The women may come and go, but Hank's heart truly belongs to his daughter, Becca.
Hank and Karen's quick-witted teenager has seen it all – watching her parent's
on-again/off-again relationship, as well as her father's roller-coaster lifestyle.
The experience - combined with some first-hand heartbreak of her own - has made Becca
wise beyond her years. Until recently, she had always accepted her father for who he is.
But thanks to adolescence and a new best friend with a taste for trouble,
Becca is starting to challenge her father's authority more than ever.
